Vodafone, Saxo Payments and Wirecard among the big winners at the ninth annual Payments Association Awards, hosted by the The Payments Association

London, UK. 13 October 2016 – Global leaders and innovators in PayTech and FinTech were rewarded last night at the 2016 Payments Association Awards.

Recognising and celebrating the best the payments industry has to offer, the Payments Association Awards were presented at The Hilton, Park Lane in London on Wednesday 12th October.

Emerging with four trophies to its name, Vodafone was recognised by the judges for its m-pesa technology roll-out in India, while Saxo Payments picked up three awards, including its CEO Anders la Cour, identified as a leading entrepreneurial voice in emerging payments. UK start-up Wirecard took home two awards, including Leading Prepaid Organisation.

Tony Craddock, Chairman, The Payments Association Awards, commented: “The Payments Association Awards are the highlight of the PayTech calendar and we’re thrilled this year to see so much innovation in both payment technology and services that are making a real difference to consumers’ lives all over the world,” said.

“Payments is one of the most dynamic and exciting industries in the world today, driven forwards by the creative minds behind many of the payment methods we use securely and conveniently worldwide. We have worked extremely hard over the last 12 months to ensure that each of our awards reflect what is actually happening on the ground with new emerging and alternative payments and I’d like to congratulate all of the nominees and winners on their success this year.”

New awards for 2016 included specific categoreis for proximity payments (not only contactless), wallets and blockchain technology, including early stage distributed ledger technologies (not just crypto-currencies). These joined an established programme of awards looking for best incentive, consumer and corporate prepaid programme, front- and back-end innovations, and CSR initiatives.
