HCLTech’s Payments Research 2025 explores how AI is reshaping payments, balancing speed and scale with trust, resilience and governance.

The payments industry is entering a new era. AI now sits inside the flow of money — routing transactions, spotting anomalies, resolving disputes, and shaping customer journeys. Instant, embedded experiences at checkout and in-app are now expected by consumers.

The upside? Speed, lift and scale.
The catch? Trust, transparency and resilience haven’t modernised as quickly as capability.

That tension is at the heart of HCLTech’s ‘Payments Research 2025’, a global survey of 600 senior leaders across the US, UK & Ireland, and Europe. The findings reveal:

  • Leaders are racing toward autonomy to strip latency and human bottlenecks.
  • Leaders are adopting agentic tools that promise big productivity gains, but also raise tough questions about privacy, control and trust
  • Making a choice between bold reinvention and incremental refinement, while legacy platforms strain under real-time demands.

Data is the foundation in the AI era – but governance, change management, and discipline will determine whether it creates value or magnifies risk.
