Below please find a Q&A with Jason to give you some insight into what you might expect from him at this year’s Financial Crime 360 event.
Q. What do you consider to be the current top 3 challenges in relations to fighting financial Crime?
1) Fast growth of digital assets which make it easier to mask to true nature of a transaction or the parties involved in a transaction. For example, an NFT may be purchased for a large sum which enables a transfer of value to occur, but something nefarious is being purchased as well as the NFT.
2) With the current economic environment we can expect an increase in fraud and financially-motivated crime – organisations need to be live to internal threats as well as external.
3) Global political climate – fast moving sanctions regimes – e.g. Russia / Ukraine; nation states enabling bad actors; recent retreat from globalisation and increase in protectionism makes it difficult for global businesses.
Q. How will the industry evolve in the next 2-5 years?
I expect Open Finance / Open Banking to realise its potential and PSD 3 should hopefully address some of the issues that have affected adoption such as different API standards in different countries and different interpretations of the Directive at a country level.
Growth of Central Bank Digital Currencies and instant money movement.
We have also seen a significant growth in alternative payment methods, thing such as Buy Now Pay Later, domestic payment schemes, wallet etc. The market is now very busy so I expect we will see some consolidation over the coming years.
Q. What can we look forward to from your session at Financial Crime 360?
A down to earth Brummie who knows something about compliance and a lot about cricket!
