RelyComply will host a London debate on whether AI helps or hinders the fight against financial crime, bringing together experts from banking, policy and technology.
RelyComply, the anti-financial crime platform for financial institutions, will host a live debate in London on Wednesday, 4 November, as part of its Topics Left on the Table series.
The motion is “AI is a hindrance to fighting financial crime in the UK”. Six speakers from banking, policy, academia and technology will argue for and against it, moderated by Maisie Linford of CNN. The audience votes on the motion at the end of the debate.
The speakers are:
- Ravi Radia, head of economic crime prevention, Santander
- Anil Gopaul, head of economic crime innovation, Nationwide Building Society
- Susan Hawley, executive director, Spotlight on Corruption
- Neal Lathia, founder and CTPO, Gradient Labs
- Mark Tsagas, senior lecturer, University of East London Centre of Fintech
- Samantha Emery, NED at ClearBank and senior advisor, RelyComply
UK firms are bringing AI into customer screening, transaction monitoring and investigations, while regulators, consumer groups and practitioners continue to question where it reduces risk and where it introduces new risk. The debate gives financial crime professionals a space to test both sides of that argument in the open.
The evening runs from 18:15 to 22:00 at The Apartment, The Hoxton, Shoreditch, five minutes from Old Street. The debate starts at 19:00 and is followed by audience questions and drinks. It’s held under the Chatham House Rule, and places are limited to around 70.
The event is open to financial crime, fraud, risk and compliance professionals at banks, payment firms, building societies and fintechs, as well as policy and government. Registrations are approved to keep the room focused on practitioners.
Tickets are a donation of £1 or more, with all proceeds going to Hourglass, the UK charity working to end the harm, abuse and exploitation of older people.
