Norris Koppel says that Europe is a “hotspot” for start-ups that are building a new breed of banks, but it is a hotspot where some players apparently are seen as being hotter than others. Monzo and Revolut are often cited as the trailblazers among a growing crop of branch-free digital banking services, yet it was Monese, which Mr Koppel launched in 2015, that got the ball rolling.
