Mobility payments are widely adopted, but disruption, security concerns, and inconsistent experiences show seamless, trusted unattended payments are still lacking.

While 73% of respondents say their local area is well set up for payments on the go, the customer experience remains far from seamless. Nearly half have experienced travel disruption due to unattended payment issues, highlighting the need for industry-wide improvements to mobility payments.

Attenda engaged the independent research agency Coleman Parkes to survey 2000 consumers across the UK who had made a mobility payment in the last month, to gather real-world insights into mobility payments. This research was conducted in September and October 2025 in partnership with Switchio.

The report provides genuine insights and data from UK consumers:

  • What’s disrupting today’s consumer journey
  • Regional differences shaping mobility payments
  • Security concerns around unattended transactions
  • The growth of the EV “mini economy”
  • What’s next for mobility payments

Mobility has the potential to be a powerful growth engine for the UK if unattended digital payments are trusted, seamless, and valued by consumers.
