SUMMARY:Consultation engagement session: RPIB consultation on the design of the future retail payments infrastructure
DESCRIPTION:Event overview\n\n\n Date:\n Tuesday 11 August 2026\n \n\n Time:\n 11:00 to 12:00\n \n\n Location:\n Online (Zoom\, joining details will be shared with registered attendees)\n \n \nThis consultation from the Bank of England seeks to gather views on the design of the UK’s next-generation retail payments infrastructure. It sets out initial thinking on how a core clearing and messaging infrastructure could support a wide range of payment journeys\, and invites views on priorities\, trade-offs and key design choices. It is intended to inform the work of the Bank and the Retail Payments Infrastructure Board (RPIB) in developing a high-level design for the core infrastructure and its role within the wider payments ecosystem. \nThe RPIB has a key role in translating the public policy objectives of the National Payments Vision (NPV) and Payments Vision Delivery Committee (PVDC) into a design for the next-generation infrastructure. \nThis consultation will inform the RPIB’s work on the development of a high-level design for the core infrastructure to be taken forward by an industry-owned and led Delivery Company (DeliveryCo). It approaches the overarching question of what the core infrastructure must achieve from three complementary perspectives: \n\nFuture payment journeys: What payment journeys should the core infrastructure support\, namely\, what will next-generation infrastructure deliver for end users?\nDesign principles: What principles and characteristics should guide the design of core infrastructure?\nThe wider payments ecosystem: What role should the core infrastructure play within the wider UK payments ecosystem?\n\nThe RPIB will consider responses to this consultation to refine its thinking and identify areas where further analysis\, testing or industry engagement is needed\, including through the new engagement forums. \nThis consultation closes on 11 September 2026. \nWhy attend\nThis 60-minute online session for members of The Payments Association will provide a collaborative space to share views\, test ideas and contribute directly to the drafting of our formal response to the consultation. \nThis is a practical\, discussion-led workshop designed to gather real member insight rather than presentations or briefings. We would appreciate as many members attending as possible to ensure our response is comprehensive and representative of the views of our membership.

SUMMARY:Consultation engagement session: Bank of England and Financial Conduct Authority’s approach to joint regulation of systemic stablecoin issuers
DESCRIPTION:Event overview\n\n\nDate: Tuesday 8th September 2026\n\n\nTime: 12:00 – 13:00 BST\n\n\nLocation: Online (Zoom — joining details will be shared with registered attendees)\n\n\n  \n\nThe Bank of England and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) have published a joint framework outlining how they will regulate systemic stablecoin issuers in the UK. The proposals establish a coordinated two-tier regulatory regime\, with the FCA overseeing all UK-issued qualifying stablecoins\, while issuers deemed systemic by HM Treasury will be jointly regulated by the Bank and the FCA. \nThe framework sets out:\n\nHow supervisory responsibilities will be shared between the Bank of England and the FCA.\nHow firms will transition from FCA-only oversight to joint regulation if they become systemic.\nHow regulatory requirements will differ for systemic stablecoin issuers to address greater financial stability risks.\nProvisions for firms expected to be systemic from launch.\nHow the stablecoin regime will interact with other UK regulators where responsibilities overlap.\n\nThe proposals aim to provide greater regulatory clarity while supporting innovation\, consumer protection\, market integrity and financial stability as the UK’s stablecoin market develops. \n\nThis consultation paper seeks to gather feedback on the Bank’s proposed application of rules for systemic stablecoin issuers during transition when recognised as systemic by HMT. This builds on the rules the Bank is consulting on in the Bank’s June 2026 Publication and the final rules published by the FCA on its PS26/10.\n\nThis consultation closes on 30 September 2026.\n\nWhy attend\n\nThis 60-minute online session for members of The Payments Association will provide a collaborative space to share views\, test ideas\, and contribute directly to the drafting of our formal response to the consultation.\n\nThis is a practical\, discussion-led workshop designed to gather real member insight rather than presentations or briefings. We would appreciate as many members attending as possible to ensure our response is comprehensive and representative of the views of our membership.
